Bergvall's Nightmare – Own Goal in European League

Lucas Bergvall had a tough day at work, when his Tottenham lost to AZ Alkmaar in the round of 16 in the Europa League. The 18-year-old was responsible for a clumsy own goal in the first half, after having kicked down the plane's second Swedish player Mayckel Lahdo.

Not much is going right for Tottenham this season. Just ask Lucas Bergvall.

In the 18th minute, the young Swede scored an own goal in the form of a failed clearance, which meant a disadvantage for "Spurs".

It was during a corner that Bergvall found himself at the center of events. The Swede was supposed to clear a harmless header, but got a bad touch and instead the ball flew, in a high arc, towards his own goal.

Goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario could only watch as the ball sailed into the far corner of the net, and acknowledge that Dutch AZ Alkmaar had taken the lead. A goal that would also be the only one of the match.

Earlier, Bergvall had kicked down the pitch's second Swede, Mayckel Lahdo, which meant that the 22-year-old was forced to leave injured as early as the ninth minute.

The match ended 1–0 to Alkmaar, who lead the eighth-final ahead of the return match in London in a week.
