After a summer in which Bergvall was rumoured to be on his way out of Tottenham, coach Roberto De Zerbi gave him a start when Spurs visited Brentford in the opening round of the English league.
The home team took command immediately, and in the 12th minute Keane Lewis-Potter made it 1-0. Minutes later, Brentford extended the lead after carelessness from Richarlison and Bergvall, who lost the ball in their own half.
Lucas Bergvall was substituted at half-time, and Brentford won the match 3-0 after Michael Kayode scored the third goal early in the second half.
