On Friday, the national team captain presented the first 17 names in the squad for the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham, August 10–16.
But during the selection process, she has left out several events, such as the women's long jump and the men's 200 meters.
"In these disciplines there are active athletes who have met the European Athletics direct qualification standard or the Swedish nomination limits, but because domestic competition is so tough in these events, we have said that we want to wait a while before nominating. We simply want to see how the season develops," says Bergqvist.
56 athletes were sent to the European Championships in Rome two years ago and Sweden is counting on a squad of approximately the same size this year.
