National team coach Graham Potter has selected the following starting eleven for tonight's match against Poland at the national arena in Stockholm: Viktor Johansson - Daniel Svensson, Carl Starfelt, Victor Nilsson Lindelöf, Gabriel Gudmundsson - Patrik Wålemark, Lucas Bergvall, Yasin Ayari, Besfort Zeneli - Viktor Gyökeres, Benjamin Nygren.
“An important player”
Potter speaks warmly of Nygren:
"An important player for us. He knows what we are trying to achieve, his understanding of the game is good and he has played with Viktor on several occasions," the national team coach told the association's website.
Alexander Isak scored the 1-0 goal against Romania (2-1) in Friday's Nations League opener, but the Liverpool striker suffered a "minor" injury and left the squad on Sunday.
The same happened to centre-back Hjalmar Ekdal, a substitute against Romania, and the association issued the same statement about his injury.
Fullback Emil Holm was forced to return home on Saturday. Holm missed Friday's game after suffering a hamstring injury.
In addition to Nygren, Patrik Wålemark and Besfort Zeneli are also new to the starting eleven - they will take their places on either side of the midfield. Zeneli came into the squad with a foot injury and was not available for the game against Romania.
Daniel Svensson and Gabriel Gudmundsson start at right-back and left-back respectively.
Lewandowski benched
"Daniel Svensson played there against France in the World Cup and against Poland in the playoff. One of his main qualities is that he can play and do well in several positions, he is a very intelligent player. And Gabriel will be back in the starting eleven," says Graham Potter.
In Poland, attacking legend Robert Lewandowski will not start. The goalscorer - who now plays for Chicago in the American MLS - will start on the bench.
After the victory against Romania, Sweden tops Group 4 in League B of the Nations League. Poland played out a 0-0 home draw against Bosnia-Herzegovina in the opening match.
Sweden and Poland met in March in the decisive playoff match in Solna. The Blue and Yellows won 3-2 and qualified for this summer's World Cup.
