The major club Benfica in the homeland. It will be José Mourinho's new employer. The Portuguese is clear as new coach, the club announces.

Mourinho was fired from Fenerbahce at the end of August, after the Turkish club was eliminated by Benfica in the Champions League qualifier.

Benfica in turn started the league play in CL football by losing 2–0 to 2–3 at home to Karabach on Tuesday. The loss led to the Lisbon club firing coach Bruno Lage.

Coach legend José Mourinho, 62, has not coached a club in his home country since he left Porto for Chelsea in 2004 and Benfica confirmed earlier in the day that they were negotiating for the Portuguese to become the club's new coach.

So that's what's happening now and the contract is written for two years.

"Within ten days after the last match of the current season, 2025/26, both parties have the opportunity to decide not to continue the cooperation over 2026/27", Benfica writes on their website in connection with the presentation.
