More than 20 years have passed since "Bend It Like Beckham" premiered in 2002 – now it will get a sequel, says the film's director Gurinder Chadha to BBC.
The film received major – and unexpected – impact when it premiered in 2002 and is said to have inspired a whole generation of girls and women to play football.
It was also the actor Keira Knightley's breakthrough film and the hope is that she, along with the other actors from the original, will participate in the sequel as well.
Whether it will be another film or a TV series is still unclear, according to the director. But it is clear that the sequel is expected to premiere in 2027 – conveniently to the film's 25th anniversary and the World Championship in women's football.
