The American government is threatening to stop all international students who want to study at the prestigious university Harvard. One of those who risks being affected is the Belgian Crown Princess Elisabeth, the Belgian royal court announces.
The 23-year-old princess has completed one year of a two-year master's program in political science at Harvard and will now spend the summer at home in Belgium. Whether she can return to her studies in Cambridge, Massachusetts, is uncertain.
We'll see what happens. Right now, we're analyzing this and we'll see what significance it has for the princess's future decisions, says the royal court's spokesperson Xavier Baert according to several news agencies.
The Crown Princess is the eldest of King Philippe and Queen Mathilde's four children. Before studying at Harvard, she took a degree in history and politics at Oxford University.
According to Harvard, the government's decision is contrary to the constitution and will have "immediate and devastating consequences" for over 7,000 students.
