A hunter in Bollnäs was surprised by a bear during the lynx hunt on Saturday – and was forced to shoot the bear in self-defense, writes Svensk Jakt.
The hunter fired one shot, probably from the hip, when the bear was half a meter from him. Then he took a few steps back and fired two more shots. The bear died immediately, says the hunt leader for the newspaper.
Two more bears then appeared on the spot, but were chased away by dogs.
The police and rescue services were called. A report of hunting crime has been filed to investigate the incident, but no one is suspected of any crime.
The bear was transported to the National Veterinary Institute in Uppsala.
