A bear attacked a father and his son in the woods outside Edsbyn in Hälsingland on Saturday. The incident occurred when the two were out hunting elk.

Neither of them was physically injured, and the bear was shot to death.

It could just as well have been a catastrophe here tonight. I could have had one less son, says the father to P4 Gävleborg on Saturday evening.

The police have initiated a preliminary investigation into gross hunting crime to investigate the sequence of events.

The father says that he and the eleven-year-old son approached a hole in the ground, which turned out to be a lair, when the bear suddenly came rushing out towards the boy.

The father managed to quickly grab his rifle and shoot the bear dead before it reached the boy.

I only think that it must not get to my son. The bear is only a meter away from him, he says.
