The cuts will be the largest in a decade, according to The Guardian.
According to BBC Director-General Matt Brittin, voluntary resignations are not enough; employees must also be laid off.
Over the next three years, a total of 2,000 jobs will be cut at the British public service broadcaster.
"We live in very uncertain times," Brittin told staff, according to The Guardian.
"Our audiences rely on us every day to keep them informed, entertained, and equipped to understand the world. Making savings while fulfilling our mission is doubly difficult for everyone."
