The BBC must save 500 million pounds, equivalent to approximately 6.2 billion kronor, over the next two years, writes the BBC.
This means "really bad news" for staff, according to interim director-general Rhodri Talfan Davies.
The number of employees at the BBC is estimated at approximately 21,500.
Union chairwoman Philippa Childs warns that a cut of this size will be "devastating for staff and the BBC as a whole."
