The information about Gary Lineker leaving BBC's Premier League program "Match of the day" after 26 years as a presenter leaked out already on Monday.
Now BBC confirms that the ongoing season will be Lineker's last in the program.
The 63-year-old former attacking star will, however, remain on the channel for a while, since he will be working there during the World Championship 2026.
"He will be enormously missed in the program, but we are so happy that he is staying with BBC to present live football", says Alex Kay-Jelski, head of BBC Sport.
