The twelve episodes are scheduled to begin broadcasting sometime during 2026–2027. No actors have been presented.
The original, with David Hasselhoff in the lead role as Mitch Buchannon, premiered in 1989 and became an international phenomenon.
The series made Pamela Anderson a world star, in the role of one of the lifeguards in a red, high-cut, swimsuit.
In the late 1990s, the setting was moved to Hawaii, but then the series was discontinued. Several revival attempts have been initiated, but not carried out. In 2017, a feature film was made instead, with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson in the lead role.
