In the middle of the night and under tight security, the cultural treasure arrived at the museum in London. Since the tapestry, which is actually a tapestry, is fragile, it was placed in a high-tech container for transport through the Channel Tunnel.

The Bayeux Tapestry is richly embroidered with scenes depicting the events leading up to the Battle of Hastings in 1066. More than 600 people and more than 700 animals appear on the tapestry.

French President Emmanuel Macron has helped make the loan a reality, with the aim of strengthening Franco-British relations and cultural ties between the countries.

The 70-metre-long tapestry, which belongs to the city of Bayeux in Normandy, will be on display at the British Museum from September 2026 to July 2027. Interest is high and around 100,000 tickets were sold on the first day they were released.

But not everyone is thrilled with the loan and around 70,000 French people have signed a petition, as they believe the tapestry is too fragile to be transported.
