The 34-year-old has been playing elite football for almost 20 years and can look back on many great moments. Some of them have taken place at Parken – in several different club shirts.
Here he won the Swedish Championship gold medal with IFK Norrköping 10 years ago. Another gold medal was won in 2019 – then with Djurgården in the last match of the season.
And then the marathon match in the Allsvenskan qualifying round which led to Örgryte playing in the Allsvenskan again next year for the first time since 2009.
“Very special”
"First of all, I had a fantastic time here with IFK Norrköping. It's a time I look back on with warmth and joy. And then I was here and won with Djurgården and now to be able to do this today. It's very special, of course," he says.
A pretty nice triple to get in?
Yes, there are worse things, absolutely, says Nicklas Bärkroth and laughs.
The match was interrupted four times and could only be completed after IFK Norrköping's standing room was emptied of spectators.
It's sad of course, but I want to focus on the joy we feel. We've worked very hard for this. No one can take away the achievement we've made and we really deserve to play in the Allsvenskan with this group. That's what I'm taking with me, says Bärkroth.
Greatest experiences
He rates the qualifying success very highly.
I have been through many great moments in my career, been part of winning three Swedish championships and played many big and important matches, but this is up there at the absolute top. I was an Öisar myself when I was little and stood at Nya Ullevi when the derbies were played in front of packed stands.
The goal when I signed four years ago was to reach the Allsvenskan. The fact that we got there is one of the greatest experiences of my career.
But whether he will be allowed to join the top league remains to be seen. Bärkroth is on an expiring contract.
We'll see. I'm incredibly motivated. I have a lot left to give but that's a question for the club and Pontus (sports director Farnerud).
