A review of the comparison service Zmarta shows that Danske bank had the lowest average variable mortgage interest rate in June.
2.74 percent at Danske bank can be compared with 3.13 percent at Ikano bank, which was the highest of the 13 banks that Zmarta has compared.
The average interest rates have meanwhile fallen by 1.81 percentage points since the absolute peak in December 2023. This means a saving of approximately 18,100 kronor per year for every million borrowed, writes Zmarta in a press release.
The Swedish Central Bank chose to lower the interest rate to 2.0 percent in June, many players now believe in another interest rate cut during the autumn.
"Even if we see that mortgage rates are being pushed down, it does not always happen at the same pace as the repo rate. Variable rates are tied to three months, which means a certain delay before the cuts take effect", says Charlie Tideman, household economist at Zmarta in the press release.
At the same time, there is also a marginal increase when it comes to the gap between the banks' interest rates on mortgage and savings rates, which in June increased to 2.23 percentage points. The figure can be compared with 2.21 percentage points in May.
