The settlement comes in connection with a class action lawsuit in which the bank is accused of facilitating a human-trafficking ring led by the now-deceased sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Court documents seen by AFP confirm the settlement. Bank of America, in a separate statement, denied supporting Epstein's crimes, but said the settlement "allows us to put this matter behind us and provides the plaintiffs with further closure."

$72.5 million corresponds to approximately 687 million kronor.
