On Tuesday, three days after a state of emergency was declared following a week of incessant rain, pumps in Bangkok were running at full capacity. Governor Chadchart Sittipunt has warned that it could take several days to remove the water from the city, which is built on wetlands and has a large number of canals.
More than 700,000 people are affected by the flooding in Bangkok, according to authorities. Schools are closed and thousands have been taken care of in the more than 200 shelters set up in the city.
Deaths are also being reported from other parts of Thailand, with flooding affecting 29 of the country's 77 provinces, according to the country's disaster management agency.
