Danish hockey club Aalborg was fined after fans threw bananas at a dark-skinned player.

Aalborg will be fined 10,000 Danish kroner (about 14,400 Swedish kronor) for the racist incident.

It occurred on December 28 when Aalborg fans threw bananas at Fredrikshamn's player Jaeden Martin.

The club accepts the fine.

"Aalborg Pirates completely and unequivocally distance themselves from all forms of racism and accept responsibility as organizers. One incident is one too many and we are working purposefully to ensure that it does not happen again," the hockey club writes in a statement.

Swedish-American Martin, who grew up playing hockey in HV71, was very upset by the incident.
