Adebayo had 31 points after the first quarter. He had 83 when the game was over.
No player in the league has scored more points in a game since 1962, when basketball legend Wilt Chamberlain scored 100 points.
"Being able to do this at home, in front of my mother, my people and the home crowd, is a historic moment that will forever be remembered," Adebayo said afterward.
The points tally can be compared to Frenchman Alexandre Sarr's 28 points - the second most in the game. Swede Pelle Larsson, Adebayo's teammate, accounted for ten points.
Adebayo's performance tonight puts him just past Kobe Bryant, who scored 81 points in a single game.
