The novel concludes Karam's Space Trilogy and the jury's justification is that the book is "a novel about violence and care, loss and struggle with equal parts poetic and political explosive power."
Balsam Karam is a Swedish-Kurdish writer and librarian born in 1983, with roots in Iran and Iraq and raised in the Stockholm area. She made her debut in 2018 with the novel "Händelsehorisonten". In 2021 came "Singulariteten".
The PO Enquist Prize goes to "a younger writer on his way to Europe" and comes with a prize of 10,000 euros, just over SEK 100,000.
The prize is awarded by Norstedts förlag in Sweden and Gyldendal in Norway and Denmark.
Previous laureates include Jonas Hassen Khemiri, Karolina Ramqvist, Johannes Anyuru and Asta Olivia Nordenhof.
