Late Monday night, Harry Kane and Alexia Putellas received the Ballon d'Or, the award for the world's best footballer.
But several hours earlier, winning profiles of Kane and Putellas had already appeared on the Ballon d'Or website.
It was no less confusing that similar profiles had also appeared for contenders Lamine Yamal, Kylian Mbappé and Ewa Pajor.
A Ballon d'Or spokesperson told the BBC that the publications were a mistake:
“Some presentations of the nominees, which had been prepared by BallonDor.com, were accidentally published online. These articles had been prepared for all the nominees and should under no circumstances be considered as an indication of the final results or rankings.”
The texts were later removed.
