Bahrain's Foreign Ministry says it is committed to dialogue, but that it "will not participate in any joint meeting that includes Iran until diplomatic relations between the countries have been resumed."

In 2016, both Bahrain and Saudi Arabia severed diplomatic relations with Iran. In 2023, Saudi Arabia resumed relations, but relations between Bahrain and Iran remained unstable.

During the Middle East war, which was triggered by the US and Israel's war against Iran, relations between the countries deteriorated when Iran attacked several targets in Bahrain.

The country's Foreign Ministry says that security and stability in the region "cannot be maintained through a policy of appeasement" and demands that the Strait of Hormuz be open without "discrimination, fees or permits."
