Severely deteriorating air quality is causing authorities in New Delhi to take extensive measures.

All forms of non-essential industrial activity, such as mining, have been temporarily halted and older models of diesel and gasoline-powered cars are banned from the roads.

In addition, schools are recommended to have distance learning to make it easier for students.

This weekend, the city's air quality index rose to 555. Below 101 is usually considered an acceptable level and above 300 is considered dangerous.
