Germany risks going into the European Championship quarter-finals without any of its regular centre-backs.
Jonathan Tah is suspended and Antonio Rüdiger suffered a muscle strain against Switzerland.
The German team management confirms from its base in Herzogenaurach that the Real Madrid defender sustained an injury to the rear thigh muscle in the group stage finale (1–1) against Switzerland.
No information is provided about the extent of the injury or whether it will prevent Rüdiger from playing the next match, but if he cannot play the upcoming quarter-final, national team coach Julian Nagelsmann will have to field a new centre-back pair.
Jonathan Tah received his second yellow card against Switzerland and is therefore suspended for the next match.
Most likely, Dortmund's Nico Schlotterbeck, who came on for Tah against Switzerland, will start on Saturday.
