The white-cheeked gibbon is a critically endangered species from Southeast Asia, where populations are declining due to deforestation and illegal trade.

In the Nordic countries, the species is only found in three zoos.

It is not yet known whether the newborn infant, which has now ventured out into the spring sun with its mother, is female or male, since both sexes are born beige.
