Baby food cans in Austria recalled after possible rat poison contamination

Manufacturer Hipp says it is recalling "the entire range of baby food cans sold at Spar Austria", because "it cannot be ruled out" that a dangerous substance has been added to a product containing carrot and potato. It also warns that "consumption can be fatal".

The police are investigating the case as part of an extortion attempt.

So far, poisoned cans have been found in a store in eastern Austria and in two stores in the neighboring Czech Republic, according to the Austrian Food Authority.
