The woman was due to give birth to her first child at a birthing centre, which is run by midwives and promotes natural births in a home-like environment, earlier this year.
The birth began at the centre, but ended with the woman being sent to Östra Hospital in Gothenburg. The baby died and the mother became seriously ill with an infection.
The obstetrics unit believes that the midwife at the centre did not follow evidence-based practice and established procedures, and made serious deviations from routines, which allegedly led to the death.
Several home births for which the centre was responsible have appeared in the hospitals' deviation reports, according to Göteborgs-Posten.
