Tottenham started the match best in terms of play and had several attacks in the first minutes. But in the eighth minute, it was instead Brighton who took the lead when Yankuba Minteh came deep, pushed past Spurs goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, and was able to hit the ball into the open goal.

After half an hour of play, Yasin Ayari extended to 2–0 with a lovely finish from outside that Vicario did not reach.

Right before halftime, Richarlison reduced for Tottenham to 1–2 when he got the ball a few meters from the goal. With minutes left, the equalizer also came when Jan Paul van Hecke was not prepared for a cross and made an own goal.

Bergvall was substituted out in the 89th minute, Ayari played the entire match.
