Axelsson Eager to Continue After Djurgården's SHL Promotion

Dick Axelsson opens up for a continuation since Djurgården took the step up to SHL. Now you get a bit of a taste for blood, says the 38-year-old.

The puck artist made a comeback, once again, before this season with the goal of taking Djurgården up to SHL again.

He also made a comeback in 2022 when Djurgården was struggling in SHL, but then he was part of the team that got relegated to HockeyAllsvenskan.

Now we're plus/minus zero, so now we've pulled our straw to the stack. That's what we said when I met (Niklas) Wikegård and (Robert) Kimby this summer, says Axelsson, referring to sports manager Wikegård and coach Kimby.

But this might not be the final point.

"Just kept going"

He has had fun during the comeback and shown class. He is eager to continue.

Yes, I am. This last match doesn't want to be the last. I'll grab hold of Wikegård and negotiate something good, says he.

After the 4–1 win, both in the match and the final series against AIK, the supporters stormed the ice and celebrated with the team.

Incredible, what a damn evening and what a damn series. High mountains and deep valleys, we won game seven against Södertälje (in the semifinal) and then we just kept going, says he.

Got stitches after a hit

Axelsson had to break off the match in the second period after a hit to the head from AIK defender Eric Norin, but returned before the third period.

Axelsson was bleeding above one eyebrow.

I'm a few stitches richer, I remember the hit, so it was just to rub my face a bit and come out again, says he.

Norwegian star Patrick Thoresen, 41, is doing the same as Dick Axelsson and does not rule out a continuation of his career.

You should never close any doors, but I'm approaching 42 so I don't have much left. I'll celebrate this, then I'll take a good vacation, says a moved Patrick Thoresen who made his third stint in Djurgården.
