The bathing balls of the holiday paradise are mixed with refugees' lifebuoys on design student Ebba Brännholm's poster. With "Mare Nostrum – our sea" she wins this year's Printpower award.
The motif can at first glance be seen as a decorative pattern, but actually highlights how close the world's injustices are.
"I hope the poster becomes like a punch in the gut – how what should unite us instead becomes a paradox that should remind us of every human being's right to life", says the winner in a press release.
Ebba Brännholm, 27 years old, grew up outside Stockholm and is in her final year of Graphic Design and Communication at Linköping University.
The Printpower award is arranged by the Graphic Companies with students from design and art colleges around the country as competitors. This year's theme was human rights and a total of 193 participants competed for the award.
