The alarm came just before 2 p.m. on Good Friday.
The information we have is that it is believed to be at least 800 meters wide, says Elin Andersson, press spokesperson for the police in the northern region.
Mountain rescuers by helicopter and several units from the emergency services are now on their way to the location, which is in an area with snowmobile trails, to check that no one has been swept away.
We are not there yet, but we received positive information from those who are there that those who were nearby must have been okay. But we will still investigate the place where the avalanche occurred, says Elin Andersson.
