An avalanche occurred on Monday morning at Myrkdalen's ski resort in Voss in western Norway. Search dogs have been sent to the area, but the police do not believe that anyone has been buried in the snow masses.

"All emergency units and others we collaborate with are on their way," wrote police spokesman Ole Ronny Olsen shortly after the avalanche alarm.

Preliminary positive information arrived fairly quickly.

"The police have no information or tracks indicating that people have been swept away by the avalanche. The resource scope is being scaled down while the search with dogs is ongoing," announced Ole Ronny Olsen.

The avalanche is described as 40-50 meters wide.

Myrkdalen is located northeast of Bergen, a few dozen miles west of Oslo.
