Parts of the mountain range in Västerbotten, Norrbotten and Jämtland entered the season on August 1, according to SMHI's definition.

It was earlier than usual.

For the mountains, it usually arrives sometime in mid-August, meteorologist Max Lindberg Stoltz tells P4 Västerbotten.

He cites the example of the Stekenjokk weather station. There, it is the first time since 2017 that autumn has arrived as early as this year.

It has actually been the case that summer has not come to parts of the mountains at all, but rather that it has gone directly from spring to autumn, says Max Lindberg Stoltz.

Meteorological autumn occurs when the average daily temperature is below ten degrees for five consecutive days. The earliest date that autumn can be declared is August 1.
