”It is with great sorrow that we have received the news that Per has passed away", writes Daniel Sandström, publisher at Albert Bonniers Förlag, in a statement to TT.

”He embodied the best in the Swedish public sphere. In him there was education, language, enlightenment, conversation – the civilized struggle for what is right, the dream of an open society. Per was a friend, appreciated colleague and an intellectual role model. He will be deeply missed, but never forgotten”.

Per Svensson has previously, among other things, been Dagens Nyheters political editor, Expressens culture manager and editor-in-chief for Kvällsposten. Per Svensson has written about a dozen books.

In 1997, he was awarded the Grand Journalism Prize and in 2023 the non-fiction August Prize for the biography ”Zorn – a life, an era”.

Per Svensson grew up in Täby outside Stockholm but moved to Malmö in 1980. He became 68 years old.
