The country's governing coalition has agreed to ban children under the age of 14 from using social media, the APA news agency and other outlets report.
Discussions about age restrictions have been held in many European countries and at the EU level in recent years, including in Denmark, France and Spain. However, implementation has been delayed, largely because of the difficulty of finding solutions that do not require everyone who wants to use the platforms in question to formally identify themselves.
