A woman in Australia has given birth to another woman's child – after an IVF clinic mixed up their embryos.
The mistake was discovered in February, when the giving birth woman's stored embryos were to be transferred to another clinic. Then, the staff found one embryo more than expected, writes the news agency AAP.
After an investigation, the matter was confirmed: the woman had been implanted with someone else's embryo – and thus given birth to a stranger's child.
The IVF clinic in question says it is "devastated" over what happened and has apologized to the affected couple.
