In 2023, the woman invited her former in-laws, her mother-in-law’s sister and her husband to lunch. The woman’s ex-husband was also invited, but did not come because he felt "uncomfortable" with the tensions between him and the woman. The couple were still married at the time but were in the process of separating.
On the menu was beef Wellington - beef fillet baked with a mushroom filling. But the filling contained the deadly fly agaric, one of the world’s most poisonous mushrooms.
Three people died after the lunch. One person survived after a liver transplant.
The woman has been sentenced to life imprisonment, but has claimed it was all an accident and has appealed the sentence.
The miniseries is currently titled “Mushroom Murders” and will be made for Paramount+.
