The Australian journalist who was hit by a rubber bullet during yesterday's protests in Los Angeles was shot deliberately, says Australia's Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.

During the protests the night before Monday, Swedish time, Lauren Tomasi was hit by a rubber bullet fired by a police officer shortly after she finished a live broadcast for channel 9 News.

The incident was caught on film and quickly spread around the world.

According to Anthony Albanese, the shot was aimed at Tomasi specifically, despite her not participating in the demonstrations.

We have already raised the issue with the US government. We do not think it is acceptable that it happened and we think the media's role is particularly important, he says at a press conference.

The protests continued into Tuesday night in Los Angeles. President Donald Trump has, among other things, called in Marine Corps soldiers to allegedly protect federal buildings and personnel.
