Australia is clear for the World Championship in football next year. This after having defeated Saudi Arabia in the last qualifying match with 2–1.
In practice, the World Championship spot was already secured before the match. It would have required a loss of at least five goals in the match in Jeddah for Australia to have lost the World Championship spot to Saudi Arabia.
Australia has played in all World Championships since 2006, most recently in Qatar went to the round of 16.
Saudi Arabia still has the chance to play the World Championship in Canada, USA and Mexico in the qualifying that continues in the autumn for group thirds and fourths.
