Auston Matthews Scores 400th Goal as Toronto Defeats Buffalo 4-0

Auston Matthews of Toronto scored his 400th career goal tonight against Buffalo. The puck slipped between the legs of Rasmus Dahlin. The Swedish star defenseman and team captain took out his anger and disappointment on the stick and goal cage.

A hard-hit club against a goalie usually ends with the goalie winning. That's what happened this time too. Not that Dahlin needs the club more in the NHL this season. His Buffalo is missing the Stanley Cup playoffs for the 14th year in a row.

Toronto won the match 4–0 and can look forward to an eighth-final series against Ottawa in what is called "The battle of Ontario". Both clubs are based in the Canadian province.

Toronto has a sad history of being eliminated from the playoffs already after the first round. Maybe it will change soon.

I think we're ready. We can't change what's happened before, that's something you have to bear. But I think we've put in a lot of work during the season and winning the division is a big step forward for us, says Auston Matthews to AP.

Calle Järnkrok and Pontus Holmberg each scored an assist in the match. William Nylander went goalless off the ice. He stands at 45 goals ahead of the 82nd and final regular season game against Detroit on Friday.
