Swedish NHL legend Mats Sundin scored a total of 420 goals during his 13 seasons in Toronto.
Last night, Auston Matthews scored his 420th and 421st goals for the same club - and thus broke Mats Sundin's historic record.
"You'll enjoy this more when your career is over, but it's a fantastic milestone," Sundin said in a video clip posted on the Maple Leafs' Instagram account after last night's match.
Matthews' two goals came on the road against the New York Islanders, tying the game 1–1 and giving Toronto a 2–1 lead in the first period.
However, the Islanders won the game, helped by a goal and an assist from the home team's Swedish player, Emil Heineman. The game ended 4–3.
Auston Matthews is in his tenth season with the Toronto Maple Leafs, according to NHL.com.
