The President of the USA, Donald Trump, is once again targeting the central bank, the Federal Reserve. On his platform Truth Social, Trump claims that interest rates should be lowered, "which will go hand in hand with tariffs", he writes.
The Chairman of the Central Bank, Jerome Powell, responds that Trump's outburst will not change the Fed's interest rate decisions.
People can be assured that we will continue to work hard and make our decisions based on what is happening in the economy, he says during a hearing in a congressional committee.
Trump's announced tariffs have been seen by economists as something that can be inflationary, which in turn can lead to the central bank being forced to raise interest rates to further reduce inflation.
