Despite the women's tour heat rule being used, British Emma Raducanu was forced to withdraw from the WTA tournament in Wuhan after receiving medical care. On the men's side, a similar rule is lacking, but after a heat chaos in Shanghai, the ATP tour is now considering introducing something similar.

It is the news agency Reuters that on its website reports on the potential rule change.

During the initial rounds of the ATP tour event Shanghai Masters, it has been up to 30 degrees in the evening and high humidity.

It's brutal when the humidity is over 80 percent day after day, especially for the guys who play during the day in the heat and sun. Then it's even more brutal, says the 24-time Grand Slam winner Novak Djokovic.

Djokovic is advancing to the round of 16, but vomited during his match against the German Yannick Hanfmann. The title defender Jannik Sinner interrupted his match in the third round on Sunday. The Italian was affected by cramp.

Six more players have interrupted their matches due to either illness or injury.

At Grand Slam tournaments and the women's tour WTA, there is a heat rule, which includes that matches must be played under a fully or partially closed roof at the arena.

For the Briton Emma Raducanu, it was not enough that the roof was partially closed in the first round in Wuhan, writes AFP.

At a disadvantage of 1–6, 1–4 against the American Ann Li, Raducanu needed medical care due to dizziness. The blood pressure was taken on the 22-year-old before the message came that the US Open winner from 2021 was forced to interrupt the match, which was played in 30-degree heat.
