The Spanish football team Atlético Madrid is being punished after the scandalous derby against Real Madrid on Sunday. The match was interrupted for about 20 minutes in the second half after objects, including lighters, were thrown at Real Madrid's goalkeeper, Thibaut Courtois.
The Spanish Football Association's disciplinary committee has now decided that parts of Atlético's arena, Wanda Metropolitano, will be closed for three matches. The club is also being fined 45,000 euros, equivalent to just over half a million Swedish kronor.
Atlético announced on Monday that they have banned a supporter for life from the arena for throwing objects onto the pitch. The match ended 1–1.
