The Israeli military states that it has hit more than ten targets belonging to the Shiite militia Hezbollah in southern Beirut; "dozens" of launch pads and important infrastructure are said to have been destroyed.
According to the Lebanese Ministry of Health, at least seven people have been killed in an Israeli attack on a seaside neighborhood in Beirut. Another 21 people are reported to have been injured.
The attacks come after Iran, together with Hezbollah, launched coordinated attacks on several locations in Israel. More than 50 targets in Israel were reportedly hit, according to Iran's Revolutionary Guard, AFP reports.
The attacks were allegedly carried out with missiles from Iran and rockets and drones from Hezbollah.
French President Emmanuel Macron calls on both Israel and Hezbollah to stop their attacks.
"Hezbollah made a big mistake in dragging Lebanon into a confrontation with Israel. They must immediately stop their attacks," the president writes on X, adding that Israel must respect Lebanon's sovereignty.
