Among the dead were a man in his 60s or 70s who was found floating on a flooded road, and a 66-year-old woman who was trapped in her water-filled car, according to authorities in the Chiba region east of Tokyo.
Heavy rains across eastern Japan triggered landslide warnings late Thursday. Thousands of people were stranded at Narita Airport overnight, and the rain caused major disruption to road and train services. More than 26,000 households in the Chiba region were without power on Friday.
