The suspected shooter, a 37-year-old man, is at large and is being hunted by police on the ground and by helicopters in and around the city of Mersin.
The man is said to have begun his murderous spree by shooting his ex-wife to death, according to information provided to the state-run Anadolu news agency and the Daily Sabah newspaper.
He also allegedly shot inside a restaurant in Tarsus, a few kilometers from Mersin, according to the DHA and IHA news agencies. The owner and an employee were killed there. Outside, a shepherd and a truck driver were shot dead.
The shooter then reportedly fled in a car.
