Kyiv’s Northern Bridge Hit Again in Russian Missile Attack, Traffic Halted for Damage Assessment

One of Kyiv’s major bridges has been attacked again. Russian missiles struck just hours after Ukraine warned of a major attack on the city’s infrastructure.

In recent weeks, Russia has targeted the major bridges connecting the Ukrainian capital across the Dnieper River. The Northern Bridge was attacked again on Saturday night, Mayor Vitali Klitschko announced.

It is not clear how much damage was done, but traffic has been stopped while it is assessed. The Northern Bridge is a so-called cable-stayed bridge, with a pylon more than 100 metres high. In previous attacks on it and the other bridges, damage was assessed as limited enough to allow traffic to resume.

Klitschko warned of further attacks after the power grid was damaged.

“It is an extremely difficult situation for the capital’s power supply,” the mayor wrote.

Parts of the projectiles hit apartment buildings, and some people were reported injured.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy sounded the alarm on Friday evening, saying a major Russian attack was underway and that Ukraine had received intelligence indicating that the power grid and the bridges over the Dnieper would be targeted. He also said the country needed more air defence missiles to defend itself.
