Many avalanches occurred in the Austrian Alps on Friday. They claimed four lives, three of them in St. Anton. At least 20 people were injured in the avalanches.

There is still a high avalanche danger, authorities say, according to local media.

In addition, a person working on snow removal died after the heavy snowfall.

Vienna Airport was forced to close for a few hours and Kronen Zeitung reports that traffic on many roads - including the autobahn - has come to a standstill.
